OUR VENUE
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY
Completed in 1939, Greenwich Borough Hall is a celebrated Art Deco landmark designed by Clifford Culpin and inspired by Dutch modernism. Hailed by architectural historian Sir Nikolaus Pevsner as "the only town hall of any London borough to represent the style of our time adequately," it was destined for a vibrant future.
From its opening, the hall was a popular and fashionable venue for entertainment. It quickly became a legendary stop on the London music circuit, hosting an iconic performance by The Who in 1964. In 1975, local new wave band Squeeze played their very first gig at the venue, a culturally significant event now commemorated by a blue plaque. Other notable bands to have played there include Sweet and Soft Machine.
The hall's cultural legacy continued when it became the home of Greenwich Dance in 1993. For 25 years, it served as a vibrant hub for the arts, fostering creativity and community engagement until 2018.
Now, this architecturally significant building is poised for its next chapter. The development of an active event center for private and corporate events, ranging from awards ceremonies, weddings, film shoots and keeping its performative heritage with live music.
